PERFORMANCE TESTS VIA VS ROCKCHIPS

"Today we performed a small browser speed test between two generic MIDs out of China. The first may be known to you as the Apad or iRobot or Herokin, and is a 7-inch MID powered by the Rockchip RK2808 chip and runs on Android 1.5. The second is the Eken M001, runs on Android 1.6 and is powered by the VIA WM8505 processor. We tested several websites including Wikipedia, Slatedroid and Engadget. Below you’ll find our tabulated results - each test was performed 3 times to see the effect of browser caching on page load times. Overall, the Rockchip powered MID beat out the VIA powered MID in both page load times, and on a more subjective note, it simply felt smoother and faster to operate.

The below table shows the website and the time it took for that website to load in all 3 trials. All times are in seconds. Underlined times indicate either one of the MIDs beat the other in the corresponding trial. During the trials, all browser cache was cleared beforehand. From the results below we can immediately see the huge effect that the browser caching components of a website has, especially if the website is image heavy, such as the MP4Nation catalog website.

Also, as an added bonus for comparison sake, we have tested the Google Nexus One phone running the 1GHz Snapdragon processor. The results are not completely unambiguous, but interesting nonetheless. The Google Nexus One phone wins many of the speed tests, thanks to its more powerful processor, but still loses out unexpectedly such as on the Google.com page load tests."

NOTE: The underline indicates the time that beat the others (lowest time is best). Note the very LARGE difference in performance between the MW8505 and the rockchips. Please ask the seller before you buy what processor is in the unit. I see sellers listing rockchips in their add and then later listing MW8505 in the specs, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.
